Sierras (1913-14) by the Schmitz-Horning Co., Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
Have you been to the Google Cultural Institute? The Google Art Project section is a diverse collection of art, and there are Historic Moments and World Wonders sections to explore too. The art is searchable by collections, artists, artworks, and user galleries.
In my search on information regarding my great-grandfather’s wallpaper and mural business, the Schmitz-Horning Co., I found four of the company’s mural art samples in Google’s Art Project, which are in the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum at the Smithsonian.
Google Chrome browser has a Google Art Project extension which adds a tab that is refreshed everyday (hourly according to one source) with art masterpieces. You can learn more about the image or download it to use on your computer desktop!

Google Art Project Chrome browser extension
The Google Cultural Institute also enables you to create your own galleries and share with friends. There is also a Featured section of exhibitions and collections. A couple I viewed were the Struggle Ink Exhibiton of public poster art and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
If you need inspiration or to brighten your day, visit the site! Links in the header allow you to take a tour or watch a video to get started!

Nancy Aikins displays her iPad art in South Euclid, Ohio through March 2014.
Nancy Dinger Aikins paints and draws with her finger…using an iPad! Her style is very unique and she is explorative in her approach to her art. Using principles in color theory, design, use of theme and pattern, she creates visually-appealing energetic compositions. She uses art Apps such as ArtRage, ArtStudio, Paper53, Repix, Percolator and DistressedFX to make her artistic art work. With confidence and integrity, she pushes and manipulates the tools and her images to extremes, in her personal journey which she shares with us in her work.
Nancy currently has some of her work on display in a group exhibit at Coffee Phix, 4441 Mayfield Road, South Euclid, Ohio 44121 through March 2014.
You can find Nancy’s iPad art on her web site, Doodling in the Dark, at www.nancy-aikins.squarespace.com and selected pieces for sale on her ETSY site, Every Crayon in the Box, at www.etsy.com/shop/everycrayoninthebox.

Thomas R. Roese is a spectacular Cleveland artist. His newest drawings are architecturals in charcoal, acrylic, and colored pencil, inspired by a recent trip to Germany and currently selling at Dolan/Maxwell gallery in Philadelphia, PA. I visited him at The Print Club of Cleveland’s 29th Annual Fine Print Fair, on September 30th, 2013, at the Cleveland Museum of Art. (Did I mention that I designed his web site at www.thomasrroese.com?)

Rachel N. Davis is owner and auctioneer at Rachel Davis Fine Arts auction house and is auctioneer of fine arts. The upcoming fine arts auction, October 19, 2013, features the Cleveland School Art. Serving about seven auctions per year, the work can be previewed the week prior. She is on the Board for The Print Club of Cleveland. (Did I mention that I designed the concept for her web site www.racheldavisfinearts.com, and currently produce her postcard mailers and larger auction catalogs?)

- Margaret ‘Yuko’ Kimura speaks fluent Japanese and works at The Verne Collection, Japanese print gallery located in Little Italy. As an artist, she uses collage and mixed media and fabric patterns inspired by her grandmother in prints she exhibits regularly throughout the area. The piece shown is from her ‘Paper Windows’ collection of works on paper. (Did I mention that I designed The Verne Collection’s logo, and the concept for their web site at www.vernegallery.com?)

The historic New Union Center for the Arts
A short distance from Cleveland lies Oberlin, Ohio, a charming college town, with a quaint town square filled with shops, restaurants, and museums. I recently visited an exhibit there, “The Artist as Quiltmaker XV” at FAVA (Firelands Association for the Visual Arts) in the historic New Union Center for the Arts, which runs through July 29, 2012.

The Artist as Quiltmaker XV
The contemporary artist’s quilt exhibit was impressive, and the work diverse in its visual impact and creativity, subject matter, and in technique–using dyes, applique and multimedia, using stitching wizardry both by machine and by hand. The artists represented are from all over the country.
Enjoy these selected artist’s quilt images from the show:

Susan Krueger, Fields, 2011
…inspiration from flying over France and Italy

Sibyl Graber Gerig, Mid-Winter Field, 2011
…capturing afternoon light in mid-winter

May Schonenberger, Dusk, 2011
…using images from my home country, Switzerland

Dusk (Detail)

Mary Ann Weber, Primordial Slime, 2010
…as I meditated, I saw lizards crawling over primordial slime and rocks

Marian Zielinski, 55 Worlds, 2009 (Detail)
…the infinite and undefinable quilt of the universe and my own human perceptual limitations

Marianne R. Willamson, Babbling Brook, 2011 (Detail)
…the movement, and the transparency of the water intrigue me
